Youth Dev?t Commission meets

The Youth Development Commission will strengthen communication with young people.

The commission, chaired by Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung, held its second meeting today where it endorsed its youth engagement plan and agreed to regularise the Youth Ambassadors Scheme.

The plan includes regular visits to schools and district youth organisations for dialogue with students and young people including non-Chinese speaking youths and those from low-income families.

The commission agreed to maintain close contact with the 18 District Youth Programme Committees and to invite young people to have discussions on youth development.

It will hold a youth summit next year to listen to young people's views and make use of online platforms and social media to strengthen communication with them.

On the Youth Ambassadors Scheme, the commission will recruit 100 young people each year to identify and nurture more youths who are committed and passionate about serving the community.

Scheme participants will be provided with training to enhance their understanding of social and public affairs, while other skills such as logical thinking and leadership skills will also be improved.

They will have opportunities to take part in programmes including large-scale events, international conferences, and youth engagement activities.

A dedicated website for the Youth Development Commission has been launched to promote its activities.
