Virus testing for drivers extended

The Transport Department announced today that its voluntary and free of charge COVID-19 testing service for taxi and public light bus drivers (PLB) will be extended starting August 4.

In this phase of testing, the oropharyngeal swab self-sampling will be adopted.

Drivers holding a valid Hong Kong identity card and taxi or PLB driver identity card may visit one of the six designated distribution points to register and collect the testing kit without prior phone booking.

They must follow the testing instructions and return the specimens to the designated collection points as soon as possible. The contractor will send the specimens to laboratories for testing.

In case a driver tests positive for COVID-19, the contractor will notify the department of the specimen serial number and the department will relay patient details to the Centre for Health Protection for follow-up.

The contractor will not retain the drivers? personal data.

Each taxi or PLB driver will be offered the service once. Those who participated in the testing service in the last phase do not need to join this round.
