Students set for space camp

Thirty secondary students are heading to Beijing later this month for a nine-day space training programme.

The Young Astronaut Training Camp will take place from July 27 to August 4, during which the participants will visit major space and astronomy facilities and attend lectures on space science and technology.

They will also receive hands-on training, including on how to wear and move around in a spacesuit, cooking in an outer space kitchen, as well as psychological and blood-redistribution adaptability training.

After completing space camp, the youngsters will undergo an examination and be presented with certificates.

Speaking at the send-off ceremony today, Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah said he hopes the selectees can seize this rare opportunity to broaden their knowledge and horizons, as well as make contributions to society in the future.

The 30 students were chosen out of more than 160 applicants. They went through three-rounds of interviews and a three-day pre-camp trial.
