Nicholas Yang visits Kwai Tsing

Secretary for Innovation & Technology Nicholas Yang visited a technology company and a HealthTech Centre in Kwai Tsing today.

Mr Yang toured a radio frequency identification (RFID) label and hangtag manufacturing company to learn about its operation model with a Hong Kong-based research and development team and Mainland production bases.

He said the Government is committed to promoting re-industrialisation and developing high-end manufacturing industries which leverage new technologies and smart production while requiring less land. The high value-added processes will be kept in Hong Kong.

Mr Yang also met Radio Frequency Identification General Chamber of Commerce representatives to learn more about their collaboration with the Logistics & Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre and local enterprises in driving RFID technology application.

For instance, RFID technologies are deployed in enhancing construction site safety through the installation of sensors and chips on site vehicles and safety helmets for detection of workers, as well as building components delivery tracking and construction waste disposal in building public housing.

Mr Yang then paid a visit to the Institute of Vocational Education's (Kwai Chung) HealthTech Centre, which offers training solutions for students pursuing health services studies.

The centre enables students to master the latest medical and healthcare technologies, including simulation training on operating automated external defibrillators with the aid of mixed reality devices.

It also engages elderly residents to try out interactive virtual reality games for students to conduct health assessments for seniors, promoting the adoption of health technologies.

Mr Yang concluded his Kwai Tsing visit by meeting District Councillors.
