Nicholas Yang visits Beijing


Secretary for Innovation & Technology Nicholas Yang began his visit to Beijing today.

 

Mr Yang first met Ministry of Science & Technology Vice Minister Prof Huang Wei.

 

They discussed arrangements resulting from the meeting of the Mainland/Hong Kong Science & Technology Co-operation Committee held in November last year.

 

They include the cross-boundary transfer of Mainland funding for research projects, co-operation in innovation and technology, the participation of Hong Kong technology experts in national science and technology programmes, and the assessment of Hong Kong laboratories to be approved as Partner State Key Laboratories.

 

Mr Yang thanked the ministry for its support in leveraging Hong Kong's advantages to contribute to national development.

 

He later made courtesy calls on Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office Director Zhang Xiaoming and Deputy Director Huang Liuquan.

 

Mr Yang also went to Zhongguancun to visit the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

 

He was briefed on iris, facial and gait recognition technologies developed by the institute and its frontier disciplines in brain science and artificial intelligence.

 

At his meeting with the academy?s Vice President Prof Zhang Jie, Mr Yang said the academy has a close partnership with Hong Kong, conducting research projects jointly with six Hong Kong universities.

 

He said he looks forward to further co-operation on various fronts.
