InvestHK holds Shanghai seminar

Invest Hong Kong hosted a seminar in Shanghai today to encourage Mainland companies to make use of Hong Kong's latest change in tax policies to expand their business overseas.

Speaking at the seminar, Director-General of Investment Promotion Stephen Phillips said Hong Kong's unique advantages under "one country, two systems", together with the city's geographical location and robust legal system, can benefit Shanghai businesses.

Regarding taxation, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has announced new tax measures to benefit small and medium-sized enterprises, with the profits tax rate for the first $2 million in profits to be halved to 8.25%.

Mr Phillips also discussed the Belt & Road Initiative and the arrangement the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has signed with the National Development & Reform Commission to advance Hong Kong's participation in the initiative.

He said Hong Kong will continue to serve as a springboard for Mainland companies seeking to go global.

He urged Shanghai companies to leverage on Hong Kong to embrace the new opportunities under these national initiatives.
