Insurance Authority CEO appointed

The Chief Executive has appointed former Secretary for the Civil Service Clement Cheung as Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Insurance Authority for two years from August 15.

The appointment was made under the Insurance Ordinance.

Mr Cheung was selected through a competitive process by a selection board chaired by the Chairman of the Insurance Authority.

Financial Secretary Paul Chan said Mr Cheung, having been Commissioner of Insurance from 2006 to 2009, had direct regulatory experience and a close working relationship with the insurance industry.

The Insurance Authority, a new insurance regulator independent of the Government, assumed the statutory functions on the regulation of insurance companies in 2017.
