Free virus test for helpers extended

The Food & Health Bureau today announced that the one-off free COVID-19 testing service at community testing centres for foreign domestic helpers (FDHs) will be extended to January 31.

The Government has been providing the one-off free testing service to all FDHs in Hong Kong since December 18, 2020. As at today, over 25,000 helpers have made use of the service at community testing centres.

The bureau said the free testing arrangement has so far identified seven positive cases, with a positive rate of 0.03%.

Helpers should book in advance for the free testing service through the community testing centre booking system. Those who do not make an appointment will need to pay $240 for the service.

Upon arrival at the community testing centres, helpers should present their identity document used at the time of booking and the SMS booking confirmation for verification.

The Government encouraged them to participate in the free test to safeguard their health and that of their employers' families. It also urged employers to assist in arranging for their helpers to make use of the free service.

For helpers whose previous employment contracts have expired or have been terminated and who are waiting to join their new employers, they may collect and return the deep throat saliva specimen collection packs at the Labour Department's temporary distribution/collection point at 1/F, Immigration Tower, 7 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai. No prior appointment is required.
