Edward Yau visits Tsuen Wan


Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Edward Yau visited the Sam Tung Uk Museum, the Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage Centre and a co-working space in Tsuen Wan today.

        

At the Sam Tung Uk Museum, Mr Yau learned about the architectural layout of the village and its unique living spaces.

 

Sam Tung Uk, a 200-year-old Hakka walled village, is a declared a historical monument. It was converted into the Sam Tung Uk Museum after restoration, allowing visitors to know more about the unique culture of walled villages.

 

Mr Yau also visited the Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage Centre, where he was briefed on its educational and promotional activities to enhance public understanding and awareness of the city?s intangible cultural heritage.

 

He later met young entrepreneurs at co-working space Smart-Space 8 to get to know their experiences in starting businesses.

 

Smart-Space 8 is a co-working space under the Space Sharing Scheme for Youth to support startups in emerging industries and young people who are starting their own businesses.

 

Mr Yau said the scheme is based on collaboration between the business sector, non-government organisations and the Government.

 

Under the scheme, young people pursuing careers in innovation and technology, creative industries, and arts and culture can rent co-working spaces or studios at a lower-than-market price.

 

Mr Yau hoped more enterprises will join the scheme.

 

He also met Tsuen Wan District Council members.
