Don?t delay paternity leave bill: Gov't

Acting Chief Executive Matthew Cheung has urged lawmakers not to delay the passage of a bill extending paternity leave so it can be passed as soon as possible.

Making the statement before today?s Executive Council meeting, Mr Cheung said he hoped legislators will not file amendments to the Employment (Amendment) Bill 2018 when it is tabled in the Legislative Council tomorrow.

He said the Labour Advisory Board supports the Government?s proposal to extend paternity leave from three days to five.

The administration hopes it can come into effect by the end of the year to benefit working fathers.

He added extra allowance payments to social security recipients, proposed in the 2018-19 Budget, have been made since June 15.
