CE to lead I&T development

Chief Executive Carrie Lam will lead the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong by devoting a large amount of resources to the sector and providing support for startups.

She made the statement at the RISE 2018 conference today, where she toured booths set up by local startups.

She said Hong Kong can improve in smart city development and the city is quickly catching up to other places, adding the eight-pronged approach she outlined will create a favourable I&T environment.

The Government has formed the Financial Leaders Forum chaired by the Financial Secretary which facilitates amendments of the Listing Rules to help emerging and innovative sector companies list in Hong Kong, she added.

Along with Hong Kong's advantages in scientific research, Mrs Lam hopes support in areas including resources, nurturing of talent and synergy with other cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area will enhance the transformation of scientific and technological achievements.

She also welcomed talents from around the world to develop careers in Hong Kong.

RISE, the largest technology conference in Asia, is being held from July 9 to 12 at the Convention & Exhibition Centre.

About 15,000 entrepreneurs, investors and startup representatives from more than 100 countries and regions are attending.
