CE meets Jiangmen mayor

Chief Executive John Lee met Jiangmen Mayor Wu Xiaohui today to exchange views on deepening co-operation between the two places.

After welcoming Ms Wu and her delegation to Hong Kong, Mr Lee noted that with the full resumption of normal travel with the Mainland and Hong Kong's reconnection to the world, it is the best time for the city to give full play to its dual role in going global and attracting foreign investment.

He explained that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will focus on economic development this year, promoting comprehensive economic, trade, cultural and tourism exchanges with the Mainland and the rest of the world.

Under the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Hong Kong and Jiangmen will achieve complementarity on various fronts, Mr Lee pointed out.

Noting that Jiangmen has been vigorously promoting the development of advanced manufacturing and actively attracting enterprises and investments, he said Hong Kong is the best partner for it to expand overseas.

Mr Lee cited the city's internationalised financing platform, business network and professionals as key to assisting Jiangmen enterprises to explore and develop international markets, while injecting new capital, new talent and strong impetus for the bay area.

In addition to stressing that opportunities for co-operation between Hong Kong and Jiangmen are ample, the Chief Executive made it clear that there is room for collaboration between the two places in areas such as innovation and technology, finance, tourism and education.

The Hong Kong SAR Government will continue to co-operate with the Jiangmen Municipal Government in strengthening the co-ordination between the two places with the goal of contributing to the high-quality development of the bay area, Mr Lee added.
