Beauty parlours support scheme set

The Government announced today that it will launch another round of the Subsidy Scheme for Beauty Parlours, Massage Establishments & Party Rooms under the Anti-epidemic Fund on January 18 and the application period will run until January 29.

Beauty parlours, massage establishments and party rooms that had suspended operation pursuant to the closure order issued by the Government under the Prevention & Control of Disease (Requirements & Directions) (Business & Premises) Regulation will be eligible for the scheme.

Applications and supporting documents must be submitted through the dedicated website. The online application system will start operating at 9am on January 18 until 11.59pm on January 29.

Beauty parlours, massage establishments and party rooms operated by social enterprises are also eligible for the scheme.

Operators of social enterprises which have obtained a business registration should file their applications through the online application website, while those without a business registration should approach the Hong Kong Council of Social Service at 2864 2993 or via its email to obtain the council?s certification and submit applications.

To streamline the application procedure, a fast-track arrangement is in place for eligible beauty parlours or massage establishments which have successfully applied under the last round of the scheme.

Such applicants will not be required to provide business information and other supporting documents afresh when tendering their applications.

After they input their application number under the last round of the scheme, their business registration number and mobile phone number on the online application system, the system will automatically retrieve their essential business information.

Applicants will be deemed eligible for the scheme by confirming the accuracy of the information retrieved and that they are still in active business and fulfil all other requirements.

The same fast-track arrangement will also apply to party rooms.

Businesses which have not applied under the last round or have applied under the last round but are pending application or appeal results, and those which have successfully applied under the last round with changes in business information will have to submit fresh applications through the online application system.

This round of the scheme will also cover local pleasure vessels let for hire or reward.

The Marine Department will issue a notification letter to the owners of all eligible pleasure vessels by end January and handle the subsidy's relevant procedures and disbursement.

Owners of pleasure vessels do not need to use the online application system to file an application.

Under the scheme, beauty parlours or massage establishments with one to two workers will receive a one-off subsidy of $30,000, while those with three to four employees will receive $60,000 and those which employ five or more workers will receive $100,000.

The maximum subsidy amount for beauty parlour or massage establishment chain stores operated by a single entity under the same business registration is $3 million.

Each eligible party room will receive a one-off subsidy of $40,000.

A sum of $700 million is earmarked under the fund for the scheme.

It is expected that the subsidy could be disbursed from early next month onwards.
