83 pollution convictions in Oct

The Environmental Protection Department recorded 83 convictions for pollution offences in October.

Ten convictions were for air pollution, one was for hazardous chemicals, 15 were for noise and 57 for waste.

The heaviest penalty handed down in the month was a $30,000 fine against a company for using powered mechanical equipment otherwise than in accordance with permit conditions.
