50 more parks set for pets

The Leisure & Cultural Services Department will open more than 50 Inclusive Parks for Pets across the city from June 13, bringing the total number of such parks to over 170.

Park users, with or without pets, can enjoy the facilities in these parks together in an inclusive environment.

To meet the public's demands, the department, on a trial basis, opened six parks under its purview in January 2019 for citizens to enter and use with their pets.

Given that the trial scheme was a success, the department regularised the six parks and provided more Inclusive Parks for Pets in various districts starting February 2021.

After consulting the local community, more than 50 additional leisure venues across the city will be designated for use as inclusive parks starting June 13.

Additional supporting facilities such as dog excreta collection bins and hand-washing facilities will be provided for the convenience of pet owners and their pets in light of the circumstances and needs. Cleaning work will also be stepped up.

The department pointed out that when using the inclusive parks, owners should keep their dogs on a leash, make sure their pets are kept under proper control and are effectively restrained from causing a nuisance or danger to others.

It added that pet owners should also clean up any mess caused by their pets and keep the environment clean.
