The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 13 additional COVID-19 cases, of which four are locally transmitted and nine are imported.

At a press briefing this afternoon, the centre's Communicable Disease Branch Head Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan said among the local cases, three are from unknown sources of infection.

One of the patients is a Hong Kong University research assistant who works on the Laboratory Block?s sixth floor.

?I understand that the laboratory is dealing with some inactivated virus samples and they are also doing some genetic sequencing data analysis.?

Dr Chuang noted that the patient last went to work on September 17 when she took a virus test arranged weekly by the laboratory. The result came back as preliminarily positive.

?She has around six close contacts who have to be quarantined - some of them are colleagues and some of them are friends.

?As a precaution, because of this case, we have given them another round of COVID-19 tests, covering more than 300 personnel.?

The other two cases involve a 23-year-old Indonesian domestic helper who lives with her employer in Ma On Shan and a 79-year-old woman who lives in Tuen Mun.
